Where Is Platinum Found On Earth?

Platinum is a rare and valuable metal that is primarily found in a few regions around the world. Most of the world’s platinum is mined in South Africa, responsible for around 75% of global production. Other significant producers of platinum include Russia, Zimbabwe, Canada, and the United States.

Platinum is often found in deposits associated with other minerals, particularly other members of the platinum group of metals, such as palladium, rhodium, osmium, iridium, and ruthenium. These minerals are often found in igneous rocks, particularly in layered intrusions and kimberlite pipes.

South Africa’s Bushveld Igneous Complex is one of the world’s largest sources of platinum and other platinum group metals. Other significant sources of platinum include the Merensky Reef and the Platreef in South Africa, the Norilsk-Talnakh deposits in Russia, and the Great Dyke in Zimbabwe.
